In a move that redefines how Orlando experiences coffee, The Bellhop has opened its doors in the early hours bringing a bartender-led coffee lounge, offering a menu that blends classic techniques with innovative flavors, making it one of the most unique coffee spots in the city.
The Bellhop is nestled inside the historic Angebilt Hotel, which was once the grandest hotel in Orlando welcoming travelers, socialites, and visionaries alike when it was constructed in the 1920’s. It now channels the opulence and elegance of this bygone era with a Gatsby-esque cocktail lounge where meticulously crafted drinks set the standard for guest experiences.
Dasia Tazawa, who drew inspiration from global influences, is the creative behind the morning menu. “I thought it’d be really cool if we had different places in the world represented in our drinks,” she says. With coffee having so many different flavor profiles, Dasia wanted to push beyond the usual vanilla and caramel, using fruits and other elements that reflected different cultures from around the globe.
Dasia’s path to designing The Bellhop’s coffee program was fueled by passion, creativity, and a knack for seizing opportunities. Originally a bartender with a deep love for crafting cocktails, she found herself drawn to the coffee side of the business when her coworkers started asking her to make their morning drinks. With past experience as a barista, she quickly saw the potential to bring the same artistry and precision from the bar to the espresso machine. “I actually saw an opportunity and seized it,” she recalls. “Instead of waiting to be asked, I put together a menu of drinks I had already been experimenting with and showed them what I could do.” That initiative paid off, and soon she was given full creative control to design a coffee program as unique and elevated as The Bellhop itself.
Connor Christie, The Bellhop’s General Manager, also played a key role in bringing the coffee program to life, blending his expertise in bar operations with a deep appreciation for craft beverages. A seasoned bartender with a background in both mixology and culinary experimentation, Connor saw The Bellhop’s expansion into coffee as an opportunity to push boundaries in flavor and technique. “The same care that goes into our cocktails at night goes right back into the coffee program.”
Beyond the drinks, what truly defines The Bellhop is its unwavering commitment to hospitality. Whether you're there for an evening cocktail or an early morning latte, genuine hospitality remains the primary focus.“The one thing that we live and breathe is service,” Connor emphasizes. “Before the drinks, before any of the long prep days and crazy hours, it all comes down to guest experience. That’s our motto here.”
This deep-rooted passion for service extends to every aspect of the coffee program. “We knew that there was a lot of downtime when we weren’t open,” he continues. “And when the doors aren’t open, you’re still paying rent. So that definitely got us interested in coffee. Plus, we’re all avid coffee drinkers and enjoyers.”
Dasia jumps in with a laugh, “We drink so much coffee.”
Dasia, who expresses herself in many creative ways, says she’s grateful for The Bellhop’s management team for having a great eye for skill and talent and being able to put people where they belong. “Being in a creative space encourages you to be more creative in your endeavors,” she says, a philosophy that drives her passion for pushing creative boundaries in everything she does.
The Bellhop is located at 37 N Orange Ave and opens at 7:30am M-F for coffee.
